About Workspacebrussels

Workspacebrussels supports performing artists in developing a sustainable artistic practice

Workspacebrussels supports artistic voices in developing a sustainable practice. The organization offers performing artists a close-knit and flexible working framework that ranges from studio space with budget, (co)production and administration to advice on all aspects of development and creation. By connecting artists with programmers, partners and audiences, workspacebrussels functions as an indispensable link in the artistic ecosystem of research, production and presentation.

Workspacebrussels is an open and nomadic structure that thrives thanks to numerous collaborations in the city. Structural partners free up studio space for the operation, allowing the organization to optimize the existing infrastructure in Brussels. In addition, the organization is strongly linked to Belgian and international courses, art houses, festivals and creation places. Together they form a rich network that enables broad-based support for art projects.

The core mission of workspacebrussels is to detect and stimulate new artistic ideas and practices within the broad performing arts. Artistic development is the beating heart of the organization. Within the arts landscape, workspacebrussels creates an artistic sanctuary, an open space where cross-thinking, experimenting, failing and starting over are part of the process that leads to artistic creation. The organization takes on various roles in that process, from facilitator to bridge builder.

Within the artistic program there is room for both young artistic practices and artists who have already followed a certain path. The organization has a keen eye for promising, high-quality work and for innovative artistic languages and forms. This translates into an artistic profile in which, in addition to dance, theater and performance, there is also a special focus on transdisciplinary work and on artistic practices that relate to broader society in a more direct way.

Workspacebrussels profiles itself as a stable home base where artistic talent can fully develop and where substantive depth goes hand in hand with business commitment and fair practice. That artistic ‘home’ is built on openness and trust: openness to what is new, unconventional or yet unknown, and trust based on dialogue, involvement and transparency. Workspacebrussels positions itself as a dynamic learning environment where artists and employees mutually question and inspire each other.
