INTERVIEW WITH ‘SPITSBROERS’-ACTOR GÖKHAN GIRGINOL WALKING THROUGH THE GENK CITÉS

A refugee in ‘Problemski Hotel’, a ‘palettenkop’ in ‘Spitsbroers’ and a Turkish Matthias Schoenaerts in the photo. Gökhan Girginol (29) is someone you should know. He takes us to the Genk cité where he grew up.

Before I have even gotten out of my car, Gökhan Girginol (29) is already standing in the driveway of his parental home. “What exactly is your intention?” he asks. I pressed VTM quite a bit for this interview, and that eagerness apparently caused some mistrust. Girginol plays Ibi in the VTM football series Spitsbroers, a boy with Turkish roots from the Genk cities. He wears a cap and speaks a sappy language. Ibi is a phenomenon and he is the first real TV character with different roots who resonates so much with young people – regardless of their color. (…)
