Het IJzeren Gordijn (the Iron Curtain)

Paulien will be cycling along the Iron Curtain route in the coming years. She’s already started. It’s an existing long-distance cycling route from Kirkenes to the Black Sea. It follows the border that has recently received renewed attention. The first stage of the route leads to the Finnish-Russian border, where a new fence is currently being built on the Finnish side. The third stage passes through Orbán’s Hungary, where values ​​and freedoms that seemed to have been forever preserved since the fall of the Wall are being rejected. The route, from the Arctic Circle to the Black Sea, is also a fantastic ecological journey in terms of nature. Paulien Oltheten will be venturing along the border with a camera in her handlebar bag, gathering material for her new film.
