Joke Emmers

Description

Using Letters to Doornroosje by Toon Tellegen as a starting point, Joke Emmers, together with Bas Teeken and Anneleen Boehme, creates a performance about love, because who can stop talking about it? It will also be about waiting and expecting. And about how those expectations get away with ourselves. Who’s actually running things here? That feeling. And about Haribo sweets.

Yet, deep in her heart, she expected something to happen. Like sailors in distress searching the horizon, she let her gaze despair over the loneliness of her existence, searching for a white sail in the misty distances. What chance, what wind would drive it towards her and to what beach it would take her, she did not know, nor whether it would be a sloop or a ship with three decks, fraught with distress or full of happiness. But every morning when she woke up, she hoped that it would come that day, and alert to all the sounds, she jumped out of bed and was surprised that it had not yet presented itself; Later, becoming increasingly sad as night fell, she wished that it would be morning.
