Line Boogaerts & Ditmar Goes

Biography

Line Boogaerts studied graphic design and multimedia design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, where she graduated in 2010 with a master’s degree in multimedia design. At the end of 2012, she became a laureate of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) in Ghent. She currently lives and works in Mechelen, Belgium.

Line Boogaerts’s oeuvre focuses primarily on temporary drawings on windows. By using tinted oil or soap, brushes, windshield wipers, and cleaning products, she adds a layer to reality. The work is presented as a performance, a model, or an animated stop-motion video recording.

The drawing on the window creates blind spots. Some areas become opaque, masking the view behind them. Simultaneously, the landscape or interior in the background plays a role through the transparent areas in the drawing. The drawings transform and thus offer new insights. They focus on and accentuate parts of reality. Sometimes you see the bigger picture more clearly by blurring it. A window offers insight and vision.

Ditmar Goes was born in a time when births were still commonplace. He then decided to live life as it presented itself. Ditmar is an audiographer, musician, voice actor, notoriously stoic, but above all, completely himself. Ditmar has already created several audio pieces. Making music is in his blood; give this man a keyboard, and he’ll compose your next film score. Ditmar also has many years of experience as a voice actor. He does it with a je ne sais quoi that many can only dream of.

Noise disrupts your auditory and visual perception.

Line Boogaerts, visual artist, and Ditmar Goes, audiographer, are conducting research into the interference with perception. Mei-Lan contributes through touch.

In our world, you are inundated with positive noise, such as plants, and negative noise, such as traffic. They draw on the glass, creating visual stains on the reality behind it. The audio and video recordings of the performance took place at Licht en Liefde in Kortrijk, a symbolic location.

Ditmar Goes and Line Boogaerts work from two complementary art disciplines (image and sound) and seek a common language, exploring overlap between their respective areas of expertise. Line and Ditmar explore the perception of reality, the role of the senses in art, and the interplay between blind spots and noise in our perception of sight and hearing.
