Glitchless is a performance that explores what happens when there is no main character. Inspired by the logic and visual language of video games, the performance focuses on Non-Player Characters (NPCs) – the extras of the game world. They are there to support the hero, but have no influence on the story themselves. What happens when these background characters are given the stage?
The performance makes you look differently at main and supporting roles. What we consider important or unimportant often turns out to be a matter of perspective. By combining live performance with video projections – including images from real games and specially made recordings – a layered world full of distortion, repetition and shifting is created. The performers manipulate their projected environment and thus consciously create “glitches” that stretch the boundary between main and supporting roles.
Glitchless also emerged from an intensive workshop trajectory with teenage girls. They made their own games and invented characters and stories that reflect their view of the game world – with humor, imagination and criticism. Their ideas were a direct source of inspiration for the performance.
By focusing on the characters that normally remain in the background, Glitchless poses provocative questions: Who determines what is meaningful? Who gets a voice? And how can seemingly passive characters claim their place in the story?
Curious about Glitchless? Then come to the presentation on Saturday 31 May at 4:00 PM. The performance lasts about 45 minutes and is suitable for all ages. It mainly appeals to young people aged 14 and over, but everyone is welcome. See you then!
