In residence: Samuel Baidoo

Plum Road Tea Dream is a multidisciplinary project by artist Samuel Baidoo (they/them), which takes on various forms: a video game, a performance, an exhibition, a talk.

Samuel reflects on mourning, joy and sorrow and bundles these experiences into a ‘game’. Through their avatar S, Samuel gives access to a series of safe havens that you can visit. Each space is conceived as a ‘sanctuary’ that invites the player to slow down and get lost. Exploring these worlds means penetrating deeper into the layers of S’s subconscious. Walking and discovering thus becomes an archaeological process of mourning, healing and gaming.

Levels, graphic styles and atmospheres slide into each other while you as a player discover new parts of the world bit by bit and – in that process – new parts of yourself.

Plum Road Tea Dream thus connects the individual with the social. In this way, it evolves the video game and its association with violence and imperialism into an experience of introspection, connection and healing.

During the residency in Dommelhof, Samuel continues to work on the production of Plum Road Tea Dream – The Game.
